The issue of plastic pollution is one of the most pressing challenges of our time. It chokes our oceans, rivers, and landscapes, degrades ecosystems, and threatens countless species. At Beschermers van de Aarde, we are intensely focused and attentive to the scale of this crisis. Our project "Upstream: Battling Plastic Globally" is our direct response to this global threat.

We address this problem on two crucial fronts:

1. Reduction at Source: We believe prevention is better than cure. Therefore, we conduct campaigns worldwide for the reduction of single-use plastic production and consumption. This includes promoting reusable alternatives, lobbying for more effective regulations with governments and industries, and raising awareness about sustainable consumption patterns.

2. Active Removal: In addition to prevention, we organize and support cleanup operations in polluted waterways and coastal areas across the globe. By collaborating with local communities and international partners, we ensure that tons of plastic waste are collected and properly processed, restoring habitats and curbing the spread of microplastics.
